Assessment Phase

Our structural assessment revealed extensive corrosion in the original wrought-iron deck truss members, with section losses of up to 23% in the most exposed zones.

Conservation Engineering

Working in close collaboration with the city's heritage preservation office, we developed a strategy of internal reinforcement using bonded CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) strips.

Traffic Management

Maintaining partial traffic flow throughout the restoration was a contractual requirement. Our phased work sequence allowed two lanes of traffic to remain open at all times.

Outcome

The completed restoration has extended the bridge's operational life by an estimated 75 years and brought the structure into compliance with current seismic and traffic loading codes.
